The Cactus Cuties, very talented young ladies ranging in age from 8 to 13, sing The Star Spangled Banner. The performance was at the Texas Tech vs Texas basketball game January 20, 2008 in front of over 11,000 people.

On Monday evening March 10th, Rogersville native and Grammy award winning guitarist, Barry “Byrd” Burton, age 61, passed away after a long battle with leukemia.”Byrd” is survived by his loving and dedicated sister, Luan “Aff-Smif” and husband, Mickey Smathers, and his niece, Tara and her husband, Jacob Harrell.

My Daddy was a local musician. And growing up the daughter of a guitar picker made for a very unique childhood. I played paper dolls in front of Peavey amps, dodged mic stands and snaking cables, and was a part of this incredibly talented, large extended family of friends.
