`mater sammich alert: salmonella cases reported in middle TN

Although Tennessee has been ruled out as a source of salmonella contamination in tomatoes, the outbreak has spread into parts of the state. The Tennessee Department of Health identified three cases of the illness linked to tomatoes Thursday—two in Williamson county, the other in Rutherford county.

Bad Cantaloupes Found in Tennessee

Eyewitness News reports people in Tennessee and fifteen other states have sick from eating cantaloupe.
A salmonella outbreak has been linked to cantaloupes from a manufacturer in Honduras. So far, fifty people in sixteen states, including tennessee, have gotten sick from the melons. Fourteen people are fighting the illness in hospitals.

Zheng Xiaoyu, former head of China’s food and drug administration, was executed early this morning.
His execution marked the first time China has imposed a death sentence on an official of his rank since 2000.
