Hank Hayes at the Times-News reports that Congressman David Davis isn’t so pleased with the recent Bristol Herald Courier editorial (you know, the one which states Davis probably shouldn’t take money from PACs created by companies for which he just secured $4 million in earmarks because it looks bad.)

U.S. Rep. David Davis charged Wednesday that a Bristol Herald Courier editorial accusing him of receiving “Campaign Cash With Strings” was a “gross misrepresentation.

I’ll let you go read – but wanted to share Editor J. Todd Foster’s response:

“We stand by our editorial, which contrary to Mr. Davis’ claims, did not run last week but ran Sunday. The editorial, which took Davis more than three days to criticize, was based on a news article that ran that same day and which proved — and which Davis does not deny — that he is the largest campaign recipient of a defense contractor under investigation for bribing Saudi officials with gifts and call girls.

“The editorial had nothing to do with the U.S. Army, local jobs or American patriotism, despite Davis’ ridiculous and convoluted assertions. The editorial was about congressional earmarks and how Davis is so fast and loose with them that he now has a challenge from within his own party.

“Finally, the most troubling aspect of Mr. Davis’ news release is its URL, which includes ‘bhcjerks.’ We would expect more maturity and dignity from a congressman.”

The original URL has since been altered but still pops up in search results:

(I imagine Davis’ press secretary Ryan Tronovitch will take the blame for that one.)

Anyway, I don’t see anything in the article that would change my opinion, and after a few paragraphs, it turns into blubbering about “No Fair! They didn’t pick on Rick Boucher!” and “This is all Phil Roe’s fault!”

(This coming from the guy whose campaign edged past the same opponent in last election – by spreading an 11th hour “Phil did some abortions and all he got was this lousy t-shirt” rumor.)

Unbelievable.

Dang, I wish I’d read this earlier — I spoke at the Northeast TN Assoc. of Realtors this morning, was greeted by Davis and sat at the table next to Roe … I’d like to have needled them a bit about it! ha ha ha. But seriously, Roe and Davis are the same flavor of icecream — it’s just cup or cone (and Roe is a pretty boring cup, at that … he managed to put me to sleep, and I was caffeined-up and excited to be speaking next, so that’s a feat!).
