`Mater Samwich season is the worst possible time for a tomato-related salmonella outbreak – since this is a summer staple in the diet of many East Tennesseans. But don’t toss out your jar of JFG mayo and loaf of white bread just yet… some Tennessee tomatoes are not included in the recall.

I love me a mater sammich in the summertime.
The tomatoes may have come from industrial agro, but the salmonella spread occured strategically across the board. That, needless to mention, is as scary as it gets. There’s no way that could have happened without the guiding hand of a very nasty piece of work. Food security is definitely the top priority here. We need to keep our food healthy, safe and secure for all of us. The best way to do this is to vote McCain in the election, use proper cleansing procedures when handling and preparing food and make sure the food you put on the table is fresh and thoroughly cooked. We cannot afford to throw basic precautions such as these to the wind when the health, safety and welfare of our loved ones and children are at stake.
Not sure I follow how McCan relates here…is Obama not concerned (haven’t chosen my position on these two…)
Well, how do you think he relates? We want safe food on our tables for our families. Obviously, the American choice for President is the only choice. He wants and stands for safety and security for our food industry and our food products, and America on the whole. Of course, he’s got my vote, too. There is no question. Vote McCain!! Don’t pose on the internet, let alone in real life.
I wasn’t aware Obama or McCain had discussed any major reforms or changes to the FDA or USDA? Just my opinion, but these outbreaks happen largely because the agency is poorly constructed and focuses very little on food safety.
Rachel, me too! Love those fried green `maters as well.
