Lucky Pilot

A small plane crashed around 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Hensley Airpark, a private residential community and airstrip bordered by Mitchell Road and Chuckey Pike.

Ted Hensley, who owns and is developing the property, said the pilot was a guest of a resident and apparently panicked when his Cessna 172 fixed-wing aircraft went out of control.

The plane took off, climbed to about 20 feet and clipped a tree, spun 180 degrees and hit the ground. The pilot walked away with only a scratch on the hand but the plane was destroyed.
