Governor Phil Bredesen has signed off on HB4215, sponsored by Harrison/Williams which amends the Givens/Wiliams private act passed in 2002, providing for number, election, and terms of members of the board of education of the Town of Rogersville.

The act is awaiting approval of the Rogersville BMA.

Amending the 2002 Act became necessary after the city has an “Oh Snap, were we suppose to do that last year?” moment and forgot to place two Rogersville City School Board seats on the 2006 ballot. Bill Grubb at the Rogersville Review has the rest of the story.

This doesn’t address the filling of unexpired terms and that seems to me to be the part that becomes most offensive to the citizenry. Is this addressed elsewhere? The way the current BMA names board or committee members appears to be the area in which the Sunshine Law is most flagrantly violated. Ergo, i would like some clarification on that.

Also, i would like to see something in writing which would cap the amount they can vote to pay themselves. That seems out of control.
