Houston Chronicle reports that Texas teen, Alejandro Gauna, was convicted Wednesday of first-degree murder for shooting 24-year old Tennessee State Trooper Calvin Jenks in January 2007 during a traffic stop.
The sentencing hearing resumed Thursday.
After the Tipton County Jury, that convicted Gauna in first degree murder, deadlocked on whether to give him a determinate or indeterminate life sentence, the presiding judge sentenced the 18-year old to life in prison with a chance at parole in 51 years.
Gauna apologized to Jenks’ family Thursday morning, saying “I was a stupid kid who made a stupid mistake.”
