Starting today (May 1st) if you see the flashing bulbs of Mount Carmel’s speed enforcement cameras in your rear view mirror, you can expect to receive a $75 ticket in the mail.

According to Times-News, since the cameras went online April 1st, they’ve recorded 945 violations.  108 violations were rejected.  647 warning citations have been mailed out: the rest still have to be reviewed one more time. (More stats here.)

Police Chief Jeff Jackson tells the Times: a photo enforcement ticket will not affect a motorist’s driving record or have an impact on their insurance premiums.  It’s a “civil penalty” the same as receiving a parking ticket.

So technically, this means I can shove them in the glove compartment and ignore them, right?
