Dear State of Arizona:

I read about this DANGEROUS OR OBSCENE MATERIAL LIABILITY bill which passed your House and flopped in your Senate.

The bill, which was introduced by Representative Warde V. Nichols (and dammit wouldn’t you know he’d be a Republican) would have allowed damage claims in lawsuits related to books, films or other materials that cause someone to commit an act of terrorism or a felony.

Under such a law, if I committed a crime in your state and said, oh – Jonathan Kellerman made me do it or gave me the idea, Kellerman’s publisher could be liable for damages? Same for movies and music too, huh? 36 members of your House voted in favor of this First Amendment killer?

I guess my question is, Arizona, what the hell is going on in your House? Is the dry heat getting to ya’ll or what?

Yours Respectfully,

A.
