Don Fenley squashed the rumor floating around that Kingsport’s redlight cameras double as speed cameras.
Here’s how it started:
Michael Silence, the all-knowing blog-watcher for the Knoxville News Sentinel, recently linked to a blog regarding Kingsport’s red light cameras.
Kingsport Times-News blogger, Don Fenley, didn’t follow the link – or if he did, didn’t bother to read beyond the banner. (The site is somewhat anonymous and Don’s is old school. As far as he’s concerned, you can blog anonymously until your fingers turn blue: but if you aren’t willing to sign your name to it, he’s not going to pay it much attention.)
He did, however, notice one of comments left on No Silence Here Apparently, CP @ Knoxify stated the camera were also speed sensitive. Don checked this out with KPD and set the record straight. (No Silence Here picked up the correction too.)
I suspect there was probably some confusion over the red light cameras in Kingsport and the speed cameras in the neighboring city of Mount Carmel. Anyway, the discussion over coffee this morning was whether or not KPD should perpetuate this rumor — and there was a suggestion that we start a similar rumor over at No Silence Here that the traffic lights in Rogersville come equipped with highly sensitive built-in Breathalyzer/Cameras.
(BTW, I heard the MC speed cameras are calibrated to capture images of cars exceeding 66mph. I’ve tested this theory by driving by at 65. If I get a ticket, we’ll know this is false. I’ll share my findings with you. And since i consider this research, I’ll also be accepting paypal donations to help fund my study… all for the sake of science., you know. )
