Ron Paul ’90s newsletters rant against blacks, gays…

Well, well, well – it took MSM long enough to catch on, didn’t it? The internet has been buzzing about this info for months. However, when Ryan Sager at the New York Sun first brought up the Ron Paul newsletters in May `07, he was dismissed as an agent of the malicious “Republican Smear Machine.”

Eventually, the newsletter issue seemed to fade while the Paul campaign gathered steam, but Justin Gardner @ Donklephant predicted the reappearance, stating:

In short, those newsletters are a timebomb waiting to explode. And I don’t know about you, but if somebody is ghost writing for me, I’m reading everything they’re printing I said.

Again, your opponents will be able to bury your campaign with this issue alone.

Here is Paul’s most recent explanation.

In addition to noticing Paul seemed knocked off-balance by the question: “Did you read the newsletters?” – this is what I heard in his statement: I didn’t write it. I didn’t read it. Other writers did it. I can’t remember the names. There’s no video clips of me saying this, so you can’t prove it. This is just nitpicking. The information is 10 years old. It is all being rehashed for political reasons. Fox News excluded me from debates. They’re all out to get me because I am the anti-racist. Black People love me! I am raising funds on MLK Jr. day… I will set the black people free by releasing all blacks…. er and whites… who were convicted of non-violent drug offenses. So, Black Voters support me.

What do you think? Was Gardner right? Has Paul’s campaign been effectively buried by this issue? What if the alleged authors came forward? Could he pull his campaign of the crapper then?
