I realize that Nashville politics are none of my concern. If ya’ll wish to get together and appoint Paul Reubens and Steve Burns the Manarchy of Music City and vote to adorn them in Royal Tutus and tiaras- as long as you don’t tamper with the price of booze and the quality of music – I shouldn’t care.
But Nashville, c’mon – I mean daaaaamn.
He calls himself Cooljim and is well… scary. He was quoted in the Nashville Scene as saying:

“Any American who doesn’t recognize that a state of war already exists” between the U.S. and Mexico, says Boyd, “is either practicing aggressive ignorance or has sided with the invaders against U.S.A.”
Nah, this isn’t too extreme.
In addition to delusions of war and some interesting conspiracy theories, Cooljim is popping up all around the intertube urging folks to Turn Back the Invasion. In order to do this, of course, they must vote for him as a member of Metro Council.
He appears on the Tennessean site here in the comments section urging voters to ask his opponents:
Why are you not addressing the issue of most pressing danger to our community today… the Illegal Immigrant Invasion?!?
Did your PAC, party and special interest daddies order you to remain silent on this issue? Or is it that you support the Invasion?
Special Interest Daddies? Address Illegal Immigration in what manner? Should they spout contentious crap and promise answers they will never have the authority to provide? Should they join the Minutemen, pull patrol shifts or appear in camouflage at the border. Would these things make them seem tougher on Immigration? And if they don’t exhibit or display their opposition, then they must support unfettered immigration and bringing Mexican Nationals in by the bus load – is that right?
Of course, cooljim doesn’t talk about the issues or business which actually needs to be conducted. He hasn’t mentioned education or future development. Nashville is a rather large place… this stuff might come up, you know.
However, on his website, he vows if he’s elected – he will “continue to develop solutions to address the Illegal Immigrant Invasion currently sweeping our community.”
Well, shit. If he can do that… why don’t we just appoint him the High Lord of America? Wait – was one of these solutions a pitiful attempt to bankrupt the immigrant-tolerant Bank of America by having a merry band of the mighty righties close their accounts on the same day last March?
So um… how did that work out for you guys?
You know, believe it or not, a vast majority of people on both sides of the fence want intelligent immigration reform as this would strengthen national security, minimize abuse of social programs and services and aid those immigrants who’ve been unsuccessfully shoveling their way through bureaucratic shit for years trying to get legal – and are now facing hostility despite their best efforts.
cooljim, do you know why USCIS has a massive backlog? Are they adequately staffed? Is the system ineffective? Archaic? Do we expect folks to wait years to enter the country because we can’t get our shit together? When will we get our shit together? What role should local governments play in enforcement? Do they have the same authority as feds now? Forever? Temporarily? What do we expect from neighboring countries. Clearly, they will need to aid our efforts because this one-sided restriction is not working.
We could fill the internets with questions… but we can’t arrive at the answers. Our habit of resorting to polemic and outrageously absurd bullshit on both sides has hindered our ability to hold any rational discussions. We make an effort but many of you are compelled to interject stories about drunk drivers or families damaged by detainment. And those stories are all very sad. They deserve to be told along with how our fail system contributed – but they do not help us arrive at solutions.
We have angry people here. We have terrified people. We have those who seem determine to land us in this quagmire of history, nationalism, fear, rejection, racism, abuse, and semantics – and all of these things which serve to muddy the waters. Perhaps we are headed into times of civil unrest.
So, don’t you want leaders capable of steering your community away from this venom and toward real solutions? Or one who is convinced the war has already begun?
Nashville, please think about this. Really think. And then, vote for Pee Wee instead.

So… you’ve decided to stand with the invaders.
