Live Earth concerts were not the huge hit Al Gore and Kevin Wall expected them to be. The tickets did not sell-out and the network broadcast lost out in the ratings to 48 Hours and a Monsters Inc. rerun – but let’s give credit where credit is due. Organizing seven concerts in seven major cities across the globe is a huge feat. SOS deserves some credit for their outstanding efforts in making the public aware that Phil Collins, members of Spinal Tap, Roger Waters, Robert Plant and Simon LeBon of Duran Duran are not dead… yet.

10 million online viewers (a new record) enjoyed it – and tell me this isn’t awesome:

Yes, Alicia is awesome, as was Smashing Pumpkins. The notable performers, particularly in London and NY, make the poor attendance and prime-time ratings all the more puzzling. Perhaps this occurred because the event was marketed heavily online with less focus on traditional methods?
